Finally at Son-Rise

Finally at Son-Rise

I will keep this relatively short, I’m tired. But I know you will all be wondering how we are going and how particularly Cove went on our long, long journey.

13 hours to Los Angeles. Everything was awesome driving (through the terrible rain), Cove did keep saying he’d “decided to go home” – funny. Even at the airport, through all the waiting, checking in,security checks, etc.

Once we got close to the plane he did decide it was far too noisy and started to get very upset, we made our way to our seats and it took about ten minutes to calm him down. From there things went very well. He even fell asleep during take off! When we tried to move him he woke up and didn’t got back to sleep again, until much later when he had another pretty big meltdown, after which he then slept for a solid six hours until almost LA.

Again he was super awesome our whole time in LA. Again getting on the plane was an issue, he was holding on to the door of the plane not wanting to go in, but again after about 10/15 mins he was good as gold and this time only a five hour flight.

This is him crashed out in the car from JFK to our hotel in NY. A side point to that… when we got in the car and car started moving Cove got a bit freaked out and kept saying, “He’s run away, oh no, click in”. Until I realised that he was pointing at where the driver’s seat should be (in Australia) and thought no one was driving the car!!! Classic!

Seriously our trip could not have gone better with him. He has surprised us all, out to dinner, in Times Square, on the train to Massachusetts and the taxi to our Son-Rise home.

So now we are here and finished our second day of intensive training! Intensive is the word! But so is completely awesome and fantastic! The only down sides??? No snow!!! And no red wine! (no alcohol allowed at the Institute).

Cove is spending, between 8 and 9 hours a day in his play room. The child facilitators who work with him are an absolute joy to watch and I’ve learnt so much from them and from our classes already. Mostly what I’ve learnt has actually lifted a burden from my shoulders and is making working with Cove an absolute pleasure, even when he’s unhappy.

We walk ten minutes each way to the dining hall for breakfast and lunch, past beautiful frozen lakes and near frozen babbling brooks. There may be no snow right now, but you know -2 degrees is still verrrry cold to walk in!

More soon, thanks again to everyone for getting us here.

this little piggy went to market…

this little piggy went to market…

Well it’s been a long while since I’ve blogged. This may lead you into thinking that I have been a lady of leisure sunning myself at the beach… alas no! Sewing my fingers to the bone! Along with some other girlies. Too many to mention but thank you to Linda made some amazing bags, Maria gorgeous cushions & aprons, Kellie cute girls dresses (not just sewing but taking care of Lilly), Ash and Alexis those sweet makeup bags, Wendy L. some very cutsie kids pillows and library bags, the list goes on. Other contributors… Anny, Aleisha, Karina, Malakai, Felicity, Elisa, Ellen, Helen, Mike, Seb, (yes real men sew!), Gwen, Gayle, Charlotte, and of course Sean for putting up with us all at his pristine warehouse! (I’m sorry if I forgot someone!). Thank you everyone!

At last the day arrived where we lined up at the Byron Bay Markets at 7 a.m. to see if we had managed to secure a stall. Of course because I didn’t get to it last month, we hit upon the busiest two months for markets for the year. To cut a very long story short… 50 people were turned away but because we were a charity we were given the only spare site! You should have seen me doin’ a hoot and a holler and a happy dance in front of those poor 50 people!

They literally had to squeeze us in so we probably didn’t have the best set up as far as where we could pitch our tent but we sure did have the prettiest wares and stall. All up after insurance (don’t get me started!! $110 just for insurance!) we made over $700 and we have organised to be able to set up a table at the Bangalow post office on Bangalow market day, so hopefully that will see us be able to sell the rest of our fabulous wares.

So here we go the day in pictures….

That awesome McTavish Board… Any takers?? Silent auction finishing on 9 December!

Appropriately named box I have had since Darwin-days!

The birds sold well…

And my fabulous apron made from a vintage linen tablecloth and purchased by a celebrity…. our Lord Mayor.

Wowsers… Check out this amazing board that Robbie McTavish has so generously shaped to donate to Recovering Cove! The blank manufacturer also donates the blank free of charge and Simon Skerry did the amazing artwork (based on the Recovering Cove colours and style) also without charge!

Thank you so much!!!! We will be selling the board to the highest bidder, details to be confirmed shortly…

spring holidays…

Well today is the last day of school holidays and I have to say it has been a very pleasant experience! Thanks to lots of good friends!

Hard to believe this is going to be my baby’s last term of kindergarten!

As you know we did the lighthouse walk, well on Friday evening we had an extra treat thanks to Cam… A tour actually inside and up to the top of the lighthouse justnon sunset!! What a treat! Dolphins, whales, sunset over the glorious bay and good friends (Townends, Hordpenkos), followed by a wee glass of champagne before heading home.

A drive down to Kelli Thomas at Valla Beach. She is now regular pioneering! So it was great to spend some time witnessing with her, going to their meeting (which had an awesome Local Needs about the challeneges kids face at school) and of course some 5 star Kelli treatment by way of a haircut for both myself and Lilly….

A stop off at Arrawarra to see Beal’s, Folkes and Townend clans who are staying there for this week (no pics Im afraid but a gorgeous spot)

In amongst this I have been working on my latest creations. I’ve started making my own resin buttons from Vintage magazine pictures. Today I need to take them into the store and we’ll see how we go…

school holidays in paradise…

school holidays in paradise…

Today was the first day of our school holidays. We were going to have a little party at the beach with all the kids but the weather turned foul so instead we did a walk to the lighthouse from Wategoes Beach in the blusterous, gusterous day!

We saw gorgeous dolphins riding the waves. Then had a lovely little party/bbq back at Kellie’s place. Then the kids played in the cubby house Seb has built.

So even in bad weather we have a gorgeous time.

The mums, Aimee, Kellie, Karina and Me along with a faint lighthouse in the background (and tourists whale spotting!)….

The gorgeous kids…

Kellie with her backpack…

And more on nature… check out this little tree snake climbing up outside our bedroom wall…

What a hack…

What a hack…

So I am so important that my blog was deemed worthy of hacking! Hence I have been off-line for a while. Seb assures me I am in fact not that important but that hackers simply set a program to run then the program randomly finds sites to hack. Oh well not quite celebrity / FBI status yet!

So while I’ve been offline a lot has happened, as it always does. So I shall now let the pictures do most of the talking…

I launched my own little business…

20110924-070839.jpg

We needed a little extra income now that Lilly has turned six (our Government stay at home mum pension stops then). As you know we had been making little crafty things and hair clips for the Recovering Dove fundraiser and I was wearing one of the measuring tape hair clps in my hair one day when I was in a shop in Byron that sells vintage clothing. She loved it and wanted to sell them in her store and anything else I would make!

So I had to make my own stand which I did out of of images from a 1957 Australian Home journal…

20110924-071713.jpg

Then made my own little cards in the same style to display the products…

20110924-071836.jpg

I give credit to Seb for coming up with the measuring tape idea!

20110924-072115.jpg

What do you think??

My next venture is making my own resin buttons to go on the hair clips and brooches.

Also Spring has sprung! Oh my goodness red lillies in our garden…

And these given to me by Steve n Maria….

happy anniversary baby…

happy anniversary baby…

Happy New Year! Yes a new service year and Seb and I start year 10 of our marriage! How exciting, what will it bring??

We had a lovely anniversary day yesterday. For the first time we did the presents thing with Lilly. She bought Seb a….

Seb bought me…

Then Uncle Sean had Lilly for a sleep over at the warehouse and we dined at Italian at The Pacific.

Scary eyes!

Me n my girl!

Earlier in the week more lots of fun stuff happened. The kids made an awesome cubby house on Sunday then printed out invitations for all the parents to invite them to the opening of it!

There was a book parade at school… true to form Lilly dressed as a Princess! The Sleeping Beauty variety (the dress courtesy of our friends Tim, Val and Roxy in Geneva!).

The boy next door came and baked choc chip cookies for all the kids…

They were delicious, even the ones that got burnt on the bottom rack, because of our rubbish oven! The cookies were divided equally amongst the five kids, right down to the twins getting 4 and a half biscuits, because their baby brother Hamish had a whole one. Ah the math!

So another busy week and it’s not even over yet.

Sean flies to Perth today to take our Grandmother to the Convention. I was hoping that Lilly and I could also go, because Lilly has never met her Great Grandmother, but alas the fares were just too exy for the both of us. Never mind hopefully another time.

Kelly and her husband have flown to Georgia (Russia) for a three month construction assignment.

Seb has the public talk at our meeting on Saturday and then again Sunday at Brunswick Heads.

And I have been asked to make my hair clips for a vintage store in Byron so she can sell them. So that will be exciting. I’ll have to get cracking!

endings and beginings…

endings and beginings…

So while Seb has been blogging furiously I just can’t seem to blog, unless I have photos and enough time to sit in peace and write and think. Needless to say the last two weeks have been quite a flurry of activity.

District Conventions, school excursions, Circuit Overseer’s visit, including pioneer meeting etc etc., Recovering Cove got an ad put in a catalogue which meant a flurry of fundraising.

We just had our Circuit Overseer, Howard and his wife Penny over for lunch. Their last meal appointment before they head off to the next congregation. It’s always nice habing them for Sunday lunch, a lot more relaxing as its the end of the week and they have no other appointments to go to. So we even shared a nice glass of white wine.

It was a very pleasant lunch, especially since the last time we had them for lunch, last October, I went to hospital that night to have my gall bladder removed I was a very sick girl, so this meal was much more pleasant!

So here is our last few weeks in pictures…

And next week?? Well Lilly has sports day on Wednesday and it is also our nine year wedding anniversary and the end of the Service Year and Kelly and Lindsay fly to Georgia (as in Russia Georgia) for a three month Kingdom Hall construction assignment! Wowsers!

Its great being so busy. It was a comment that really stuck in my mind at the District Convenion, the busier we are in the service the quicker time goes and before we know it… Paradise!
